Successful investment experience

I bought Apple stock back in 2006 and have held the shares despite all requests from my financial planner to sell some in order to better diversify my portfolio. I eventually sold enough shares to recover my initial investment of $9K. That $9K investment equals +$450K today. Buy and hold is an excellent strategy for me. Be true to myself and believe in my long term vision.

Failed investment experience

I tried buying individual small cap stocks one year. I bought a subscription in Investor Daily and picked stocks that looked interesting to me. My problem was that i am a buy and hold girl and these investments require more "active trading" to take advantage of moments in the market. Not for me. I lost money and didn't like that most of these stocks are difficult to understand for me. I prefer small cap mutual or EFT funds where a manager can be more focused on the research and actively trade on information.

Other things about myself

I was an active angel investor with Astia Angels (capital for women entrepreneurs) for a number of years. I hold several investments still but am not active these days. I might be interested in re-engaging in this arena again.
