Why I joined WIC

I am somewhat of a new investor with a few real estate deals but am looking expand my knowledge and opportunity with like minded women. Im looking for other women in this male dominated space to share ideas, learn and invest in alternatives beyond stocks. I firmly believe that as women we should be helping each other move forward in our financial goals.

Investment Experience

Successful investment experience

I recently invested storage units as a new asset class after much research. I didn't have any knowledge nor did I know that storage facilities were an investment option along other than multi families. This passive alternative option has provided great returns. What I wish is that a platform of like minded women who have experience with various investment types exists to bounce ideas or learn from in order to scale more quickly.

Failed investment experience

My business partner and I invested in a franchise which opened Dec 4, 2019. This new business was moving in the positive direction and was projected to break even within two years. Unfortunately we were closed for most of 2020 due to the pandemic and permanently closed the store front on Dec. 31, 2020.

This incident taught me that a retail business in California is not what we expected it to be where the governments policies impacted our ability to stay open. I want a business that's recession/pandemic proof and more passive. I also learned to be agile where I changed the direction of our business in 2021 and pivoted to invest in various asset classes to offset the losses incurred when we closed our store front.
