As a small business owner, I had to look into retirement options, investing on my own. I now run an options trading and long-only ETF portfolio business, and 100% of our current clients are men. 100%! I'd love to connect with other likeminded women.

Successful investment experience

I invested (in very small dollar amounts) in many different stock/options trading "systems" as I was learning how to trade. I learned that I am very much more comfortable when I've done the research to understand why strategies are supposed to work, rather than relying on others' work. Following these small wins and losses, I made an investment of time, learning more about how to take calculated risks when trading, and make educated guesses based on research and historical data, rather than guessing.

It's not the flashiest answer, and I truly believe that the investment of time in education is the most critical.

Failed investment experience

My husband and I opened a machine shop, which had several issues. We scaled too quickly, we were in an industry where the prices were racing to the bottom, and it took 5-10 years to train workers. It was a disaster for all of the above reasons. I learned that I needed to understand the ins and out of every aspect of the business, rather than hoping it would just work itself out. (It won't.)

I know that I wouldn't have gotten where I've gotten today without having gone through that agonizing and very expensive lesson.
